What is in-person counseling?
In-person counseling is similar to online counseling, but instead of connecting with your doctor at Dr. Messina & Associates through a telehealth platform, you attend your counseling sessions at the office.
If you’re seeking a more human connection, these counseling sessions may provide a deeper connection as you communicate face-to-face with your doctor. For some people, communicating with their doctor and having them physically present in the room supports their mental health journey and encourages them to make positive changes.
Your doctor can also better observe your expressions, gestures, and habits, as well as the way you say things and the importance you place on certain topics.
What conditions can in-person counseling help with?
Dr. Messina & Associates provides in-person counseling for child, adolescent, adult, and couples. They can help you with conditions such as:
Your doctor at Dr. Messina & Associates provides you or your child with the support and tools that you need to overcome mental health challenges and improve your quality of life.
What happens during an in-person counseling session?
You meet with your doctor at the nearest Dr. Messina & Associates office during your scheduled appointment time. If you’re a current online patient but transitioning into in-person sessions, you and your doctor resume your regular counseling sessions.
If this is your first time visiting the practice, your doctor begins with an evaluation. They spend time getting to know you and your personal situation before developing a treatment plan that helps address areas of your mental health.
During regular in-person counseling sessions, your doctor uses evidence-based techniques, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychotherapy, to identify negative thought patterns and feelings so you can learn how to better manage them.
Throughout your treatment, you’ll learn different coping and problem-solving skills to overcome challenging situations, emotions, and thoughts.
If you’re interested in switching to in-person counseling or looking for in-person mental health treatment, call Dr. Messina & Associates or schedule an appointment online today.
